Join the first in person Metropolis Americas Conference in Tijuana, MX on December 1st and 2nd.

Over the past decades, the Metropolis Institute has pursued research and supported policy deliberations on a wide spectrum of issues related to migration, integration and settlement within its dynamic multidisciplinary networks. On December 1st and 2nd, 2022, over 100 participants will gather in-person to launch the inaugural Metropolis Americas Forum. The transition from Metropolis North America to the Metropolis Americas Forum will begin with a Mexico-Canada conversation on borders, refugee admission and resettlement at the campus of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana, Mexico.

The objective of this inaugural Forum is to explore the challenges of establishing legal pathways for refugee admission and resettlement, while examining the root causes of migration. Expertise and insights will be shared with colleagues around the migration-asylum continuum, while learning more about the current refugee situation in Mexico and at the border with the US.

The Metropolis Americas Forum will feature some twenty workshops and round tables over two days, combining Mexican and Canadian policymakers, civil society and researchers as well as counterparts from the state of California focusing on issues at the border(s).

Note: On the afternoon of December 2nd, there will be an organized visit to the border of Tijuana to help better understand the challenges encountered in refugee admission both at the city's reception centres and at the border with United States.
